Most deductions are lost on paperwork, not on rules.

Photograph a receipt. Tax Buddy reads it, tells you which parts the IRS actually requires and which are still missing, and answers questions about what is deductible with the statute behind the answer.

Under section 274(n)(1), business meals are generally 50% deductible. The coffee qualifies as a meal if it meets four requirements: the amount must not be lavish or extravagant, you or an employee must have been present, it must have been provided to a current or potential business contact, and it must be properly substantiated.

What it does

Three things, and the screens you will actually spend time in.

Everything below is the real interface with a real account behind it. The answers, figures and statuses are what the product produced, not mock-ups written to flatter it.

Answers that cite the law, or say they cannot

Every answer names the statute or regulation it rests on, and tells you which tax year the figures came from. Ask about 2024 and it will say the 2024 rate is not on record rather than quietly serving you 2026’s.

It also tells you what it still needs to know, and what to keep. Most deductions fail on a missing business purpose, not on the rule.

What was the standard mileage rate in 2024?
Tax year 2024, from the year you mentioned

The reference material provided does not include the 2024 standard mileage rate. The material cites Notice 2026-10 and Announcement 2026-11 for 2026 rates, but contains no figure for 2024.

26 U.S.C. 274(d)26 U.S.C. 280F(d)(4)Notice 2026-10

No figures are on record for tax year 2024, so the rule is stated without the amounts. Check the current thresholds against IRS guidance, or ask about a year the material covers.

Receipts, with the parts a photograph cannot prove

A photograph proves the amount and the date. It cannot prove who you were with or why. Each record says plainly what is still missing and what that costs you, and the image itself is kept alongside the numbers read off it.

Export the lot as a CSV your accountant can work from. Once issued, that file is frozen: editing a receipt later makes a new version rather than changing the one already in their inbox.

It remembers your business, across conversations

Tell it once that you drive a truck for work or that your studio is a single-member LLC, and later answers use it. Receipts you capture become part of the same picture.

All of it is visible and editable, and a fact about you is never cited as authority. Only the law gets to be a source.

Where it stops

The refusals are the feature.

A confident wrong tax answer costs more than no answer. These limits are built into how it works rather than asked of the model.

No vetted material, no answer

If nothing in the reference set covers your question, it says so and points you to a professional instead of improvising.

It does not prepare returns

It explains rules and what records they require. It never tells you what figure to put on a return line, which is the line between information and preparing a return.

A figure it could not read is flagged

A total misread as 8.00 instead of 80.00 looks perfectly plausible. When the reading is uncertain the record is marked for you to check rather than passed off as fact.

Can I deduct my pet iguana as a security system?
Commonly contested. Have a professional review this

I do not have vetted reference material on that question, so I am not going to guess at it. Tax answers that sound confident and are wrong are worse than no answer. This one is worth putting to a CPA or enrolled agent.
